Just remember that comfort eating is mindless eating.  Without even thinking people turn to food.  We think that eating those chips or that bowl of ice cream is going to make us feel better&#8230;and guess what?  It will make us feel better for a short time.  It is instant gratification.  Comfort eating causes unwanted weight gain that is very difficult to take off.</p><p>Here’s what happens very soon after the instant relief hits.  Just about as soon as we finish the last bite we feel regret and guilty feelings start to take over.  Often we feel worse then we did before.</p><p>I can relate to this cycle because I have to fight the urge and often think about rewarding myself with food.  It is an easy way to respond to stress and down moments, but none of your problems can be solved by eating. In fact, eating for comfort causes more problems and stress when your health begins to suffer.  Eating will not provide long term stress relief.  What it will provide is an instant but short lived chemical change to the body and we do indeed  feel better, for the moment.  This euphoria quickly departs.  What we really want is long term “feeling better” and this will never come from eating.</p><p>So stop treating yourself like a dog that has just gone potty.  Stop rewarding yourself with food.  Here is a list of other ways you can reward yourself.
